about me

My name is Tom Cook, also known as the rabbitstick-duckman. I am the character who wrote the Sermons from the Green Leather Chair. I was born in 1948 and have been fortunate to exist during one of the best times to grow up.

I was an entrepreneurial kid and a hardworking man as a commercial general contractor for 35+ years. I dabbled and invested in real estate. I had a good career and am semi-retired but I will never stop working or enjoying my many interests and hobbies. My passion for duck hunting combined with my primitive skills gatherings had a profound impact on the direction of my life, wherein I evolved into the rabbitstick-duckman and author of my life's adventures.

Joy of Teaching

I have been teaching duck processing at my primitive skills gatherings, rabbit stick and winter count, along with teaching buckeye, acorn & fire to fire, for over 25 years. Many of the kids started at ages 5-6, then began taking the classes year after year.

Now, many are 18+, and they help me teach the class on processing a duck that you get to eat for lunch. They help roast 75 to 100 ducks over the fire for the village, then we make duck soup53

Tom Cook lives with full on will power and his fearless adventures are delicious to read about. Many of us can relate to his wild exploits but I think few of us have really learned the balance . . . letting go. His latter experiences, with real friendships at primitive skills gatherings, is a tribute to how delightful living this balance can be. I really enjoyed hearing about him; he is a gem and the world is a better place in his wake.

You will laugh, you will cry, and you will relate to Tom’s lifetime journey that started 70+ years ago. Most of Tom’s stories hit home as I can see and hear him tell the stories in amazing detail that one experiences to being there as the story unfolds. Tom is an incredible writer and I look forward to his next book, as he uses his lifetime of knowledge and experiences to solve the world’s problems. I highly recommend reading or listening to this book as read by the author.
